High context versus low context http://via-web.de Wed, 18 Mar 2015 17:53:32 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=5.8 Von: JCools http://via-web.de/high-context-vs-low-context/#comment-431 Wed, 18 Mar 2015 17:53:32 +0000 http://via-web.de/?page_id=12#comment-431 While your site was helpful, my textbook states the opposite to what you have explained as being low and high context cultures.I am now officially confused on this topic specifically…I think.

„High context patterns refer to communication emphasizing external signals, including mannerisms, eye movement, and touch. High context information tends to be flowery, ornate, and descriptive. Low context communication is the opposite because it focuses on the explicit message through precision and content. Low context information tends to be clear and concise.“

Low context cultures would be China for example
High context would be United States (we tend to fill our communication with a lot of „fluff“ (extra information that may be unnecessary) and can come across as „unnecessarily complex and indirect“

Maybe I am misunderstanding something?
Here is the text I am using:
Writing Around the World
A Guide To Writing Across Cultures
Matthew McCool (2009)
pages 29-31

Thanks,
Jen

But you need social sharing buttons on here. I was about to tweet this, but would now require me to have to create a short link, etc etc in order to Tweet it properly. Maybe thats a little bit of a low context suggestion from me. From northern America… said with a smile.

And I’d like more information about China versus some LC countries.

I would like some specific inputs to understand the cultures at UK and Singapore since I will soon have interactions there.
I am an Indian from the southern state. Tx once again.
